Word of the Month – May 2017

"For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." Hebrews 4:12

“… the Spirit of knowledge and fear of the Lord – and he will delight in the fear of the Lord”  Isaiah 11:2

Beloved Brothers and Sisters,

This week we speak of the Spirit of Knowledge. Many of us don’t realized that whatever God reveals to us is His knowledge for our breakthrough and healing. We try to understand through our mental thinking whether is this scientific, proven by man or justified by any doctrines or principles. To fully understand the Holy Spirit, we must understand the Jewish roots of the Israelites. Many Christians today don’t realize they are worshipping the God of Israel and the Jews. He is the same almighty God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Jesus is a Jew, he is born in a Jewish family and he was taught by the Jewish Torah. Nevertheless, He is the walking Torah who fulfills all the instructions, statutes and commandments of God. Matthew 5:17.

In Shabbat, I shared with the families that as we understand the knowledge that God is bringing into our lives to lead a victorious life in Christ, it changes our attitudes. First is the attitude to God, which the Hebraic roots taught is the reverence fear of the Lord. In Proverbs 1:7, it says the fear of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom, Knowledge and Understanding. This forms the foundation of the attitudes in the Jewish root. Fear of God is the deep reverence, respect and honour of God. This is done without any reservation or doubt, it is like the President or Prime Minister of your country visiting you. It is like the foundation rock we saw in Israel. Totally unmovable and unshakable.

Second Hebraic attitude is to the Word of God. The Jews take the Torah as the infallible and inspired Word of God. It is so precious to them that they preserved it since Abraham’s time. It was the first Bible. Wow! It was their life and their instructions for their lifestyle. Their focus is not to challenge the Word (like what the gentiles did), but allowing the Word to guide them to fulfill God’s purpose and call in their life. Sometimes, we are arguing about doctrines of man for nothing. Wasting all the time which could be used to save souls, heal the sick and feed the poor. That’s the reason why TIME is precious for the Jews. They are focused on what the Word of God is telling them and putting them into actions. Even the scribes who wrote the scrolls took a different pen to write the “Lord”. God was the absolute truth and absolute power which holds the heavens, the earth and beneath. God to the Jews were unquestionable, unfathomable and unshakable. He is the awesome creator God, whom is to reverence with full respect, honour, adoration and awe.

Third Hebraic attitude is to the Home of God. The first day church started in the Homes and it grew to thousands. When we visited the Synagogue, it wasn’t big like the mega church size you see today. Yet their revival lasted for more than 300 years. And in today’s context, churches are facing revival in the church only and it last about 5 years on the maximum only. So what is the difference? The Jews focus on bible study, prayer, worship, praise and fellowship at home. This also aligns with TCC’s vision which is building strong families in the home for Jesus Christ.

Last Hebraic attitude is to life. A Jewish life is not only about praying and fasting but also about praising and feasting. Too much traditions and legalism has dimmed the Churches today. In fact, when we study about the cyclical feasts of blessings, it tells us that the Jews know how to celebrate and dance in the victory of the Lord. They are not to be religious but relational, bringing a deep intimacy with God himself and celebrating His goodness, greatness and holiness. Jesus has come to give us life and life abundantly.

To God be the Glory!

With Love Always,

Ps. Darien Choo
