Word of the Month – May 2017

"For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." Hebrews 4:12

A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.  Isaiah 11:1

Beloved Brothers and Sisters,

This week we shall talk on the stump of Jesse. King David wasn’t King to begin with but was a shepherd boy whom is ostracized by his family and no one has any expectation of him to be great. A stump is a remainder of a tree that is being cut down and it is regarded as more of an obstruction than a decorated splendour. It was an exact narration of the life of David and his relationship with his family. However, God’s plan is higher and greater than any man’s plan. He saw the heart of David and many scholars have said that his mother was a woman who feared God and was prayerful, and always taught David the Torah and the law of God. It was the only way, wisdom and security that David held onto in the shepherding the flock. God has given him the tactical way to bring down enemies, like the lion and the bear which was much larger than him. And this confidence in God, has prepared his measure of faith to bring down the largest and most fearsome enemy in the history of Israel, Goliath. 1 Samuel 17:36.

If you are facing a challenge today which is bigger than you or more than you can ever handle, this Word is for you today. “A Shoot” will come UP! People might reject you or criticize you, just like how David’s family looked at him but remember that God always has the last say and He said you will SHOOT UP from the stump! When a shoot comes up from a stump, it represents a breakthrough and a miracle from God. Seemingly, when an arrow shoots from the bow, just like the stone that was hurled from David’s slingshot, it breaks the yoke of slavery, bondages and obstacles. Nothing and no issues are too big or too large for our Abba Father in the heavens, on the earth or below. Luke 1:37 says that, “With God, all things are possible!” Nevertheless, God is not only interested in delivering you from your problems and woes, He has a much better plan for you. To build His Kingdom.

When David defeated Goliath, it was the start of a great victory but it was also a start of many challenges to come as King Saul was jealous and is after David’s life. What does this story relates to? Looking at the next verse, “from his roots a Branch will bear fruit!” It was pointing to Jesus from the Old Testament. Herod knew about a child was born, according to the tribe of Judah, whom will be the King of the Jews and will bring salvation to the world. Hence Mary, Joseph and Jesus were continually protected by the angels of God. Every challenges and issues we faced, is connected to the next change and transformation of our attitude, behaviour and character. Our past will not be wasted and our future is deeply rooted in Jesus Christ, our vine and our root, which will always bear fruit.

God want us to focus on our root, Jesus Christ our Lord. Only in Him are we able to bear good fruits and be victorious. John 15:5. Do not be distracted or be easily deceived by negativity comments or perception of oneself. Be still and listen to what God is telling and not what the world is telling you. You are destined to reign with Jesus. You are always victorious in Christ. You are always secure in Jehovah, our Lord God Almighty!

In this season, let’s get into prayer, fasting and praises to gain new insights and revelations in our lives. We must draw closer to God with time, intimacy and communion. Revival is coming and we must be prepared and be equipped with the Word and getting into the Spirit of God, His awesome presence of glory and power.

To God be the Glory!

With Love Always,

Ps. Darien Choo

Associate Pastor
