Word of the Month – May 2017

"For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." Hebrews 4:12

… and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, Isaiah 11:2

Beloved Brothers and Sisters,

For a wholesome relationship between a parent and a child, husband and wife, brothers and sisters, we need to have God’s peace in the house. Therefore, we must seek the Spirit of Understanding from the Holy Spirit. The challenge which most people has is understanding the Word of God. Why? It is because they do not have the Holy Spirit or know the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God that gives us understanding of His Word (instructions and commands). He is the only Triune being that carries out the order and execution of God’s Word. Such understanding is not our carnal understand of the world or any concepts, methodology or human perceptions. Divine understanding always begins with our hearts and not our mind. It is different.

Divine understand has Jesus as it’s centre. Spirit of Understand brings about confession, repentance, humility, forgiveness, liberty and changes into our heart. We begin to put other’s interest into consideration and begin to change our attitude, behaviour and character (ABCs) towards others. This is not bearing others’ problems or monkeys, but exemplifying the character of Christ. How do we know we have it? Truly only by reflection and meditating on the Word of the God. It is like looking into the mirror in the Book of James 1:22-23. All the disciples of Jesus Christ have seen their reflections in their Lord, Peter saw his pride, Paul saw his anger, Thomas saw his doubt, Moses saw his fear and Jacob saw his deception through the Spirit of God, yet through healing and deliverance Peter became the Apostle to the Jews, Paul became the Apostle of the Gentiles, Thomas became the Apostle to the East, Moses became the Deliverer of Israel and Jacob became the Israel, the Father of the 12 tribes. It is only through the Spirit of Understanding can we see the greatness of God’s call in our lives and it is also how we see the goodness of God in others that brings peace to our home, church, workplace, community and Nation.

Next is the Spirit of Counsel. Like in John 14:26, God send his Holy Spirit to give us counsel. Just as the King needs his advisors to bring victory in every battle and war, we need the counsel of the Spirit of God to overcome every physical, emotional and mental challenges in our lives. Godly counsel is so important that we often missed out ministering to oneself by the Lord. This often happens to pastors, leaders and ministry heads as they have to handle problems faced by members. Ministering to God and allowing the Holy Spirit to minister to oneself is so important. We need the counsel and comfort of the Lord to bring new vision, direction and actions into our life. Nevertheless, when we seek the ministry of the Lord for counsel, another prominent light comes into our soul, which is the Spirit of Might or we call the Spirit of Divine Strength.

The Holy Spirit is also the Spirit of Divine Strength that was in Samson. Judges 16:28. Similarly when the Prophet Elijah was touched by the angel of the Lord twice, he regained his strength. 1 Kings 19. This is not ordinary strength, but supernaturally in the Spirit that brings wholesomeness in the physical, mental and emotional. This is when the divine is connected to the refined and the supernatural with the natural. This also happens in the Healing Revival meetings, which TCC holds every last Saturday of the month. We experience and encounter the touch of the Holy Spirit for the lame to walk, blind to see, mute to speak and sickness be totally healed!

To God be the Glory!

With Love Always,

Ps. Darien Choo

Associate Pastor
